The
Meeting Minute Taker's Workshop
No matter who you are or what you do, whether
at work or in the community, you are involved in meetings.
And meetings are costly, even if they are held in a company
boardroom. To ensure meetings are productive and worth the
expense involved, three ingredients are necessary: An
assurance of closure, a strong chair or leader, and accurate
minute taking. It has been said that if the meeting minutes
are not accurate, then the meeting may just as well not have
taken place.
If people can’t remember or agree on what actually occurred
at a meeting, how can the group effectively accomplish its
objectives? This one-day minute taking workshop helps minute-takers
understand their role and the best techniques for producing
meeting minutes that include all the essential information needed.
What
participants will learn:
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:
-
Recognize the
importance of minute-taking and be able to use them to their
advantage
-
Be able to
remedy many of the complaints that beset minute-takers
-
Be able to write
minutes that are suitable for formal meetings, semi-formal
meetings and action minutes
-
Develop the
essential skills of an effective minute-taker
Workshop
Outline:
As facilitator,
you have the option of using a variety of training methods
for each workshop. This includes large group discussions,
individual work and reflection, small group discussions &
exercises, case studies and simulations for role play.
Customization will be based on your own needs or information
provided by your human resource department or the individual
department prior to the workshop. Materials are designed as
interactive workshops with a 40/60 split between
concept/theory and practical application of skills
discussed. Class size should be kept under 20, whenever
possible, so each participant will have the opportunity to
gain techniques for the types of situations they deal with
or expect to deal with.
